OMNIFIT 35 Slab is a Glass Mineral Wool slab, designed to improve the thermal conductivity of your home or work environment. It is non-combustible insulation with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification and is manufactured using Knauf Insulation’s unique bio-based binder, ECOSEÂ Technology. The slabs are odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria. These durable slabs when installed correctly have a never-ending life span. Omnifit slabs contain no ozone-depleting substances or greenhouse gases.
Key Features:
- Designed to friction fit between timber studs, which prevents air movement and infiltration through or around the insulation, minimising heat loss.
- Ready cut to allow quick and simple installation, maximising on-site efficiency when compared with alternative insulants.
- Non-combustible
- Provides thermal as well as acoustic performance.
- Easy to handle and install
- It is CFC as well as HCFC free
- Allows for quick and simple installation, maximising on-site efficiency compared to alternative insulants.
- Extremely durable and long lasting.
- Awarded the DECLARE ‘Red List Free’ label. No ingredients in the product that are on the red list – including formaldehyde or phenol.
The Knauf Omnifit 35 Slabs are tightly compact and lightweight which makes storing and handing easy, as well as installing the insulation. For longer-term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors or undercover and off the ground. The slabs polythene packs are designed for short term protection only and they should not be left permanently exposed to the elements. Glass and Rock Mineral Wool products are easier to install correctly than other insulation materials such as rigid boards as their flexibility allows them to adapt to any slight imperfections in the substrate and knit together, eliminating any air gaps. Evidence shows the absence of air gaps is crucial to achieving a high-quality thermal performance.
The Omnifit slab 35 is available in size 1200mm by 400mm or 600mm, to suit spacing commonly used in timber or steel frame applications. The slab provides a thermal conductivity of just 0.035W/mK and thicknesses ranges from 50mm to 150mm. Omnifit slabs are easily cut to size if necessary, using a sharp blade such as a Stanley knife. A heavy ruler or plank of wood can be used to hold the slab as its being cut, and a mat is recommended to ensure the floor or surface is not scratched when cutting.
ECOSE Technology is an innovative, new, formaldehyde free binder technology, centred on rapidly renewable materials instead of petro-based chemicals. It lessens embodied energy and provides superior environmental sustainability. ECOSE Technology was developed for glass and rock mineral wool insulation but offers the same potential advantages to other products where resin-substitution would be an advantage, such as in wood-based panels, abrasives and friction materials.
Earthwool Omnifit Slab 35 offers negligible resistance to the passage of water vapour and have a water vapour resistivity of 5.00 MNs/g.m. whilst the Omnifit slabs cannot completely soundproof a space they provide excellent sound absorption characteristics by reflecting the sounds back to the source and reducing the soundwaves travelling through the walls.
Knauf Omnifit Slabs can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:
- Timber Frame Construction
- Steel Frame Construction

How to insulate a wall using timber frame applications?
- Protective gear such as protective overalls, goggles, face masks, and gloves are recommended to prevent irritation caused by the Omnifit material.
- Make sure the space is clean and tidy to prevent hazards. Outlets such as electrical sockets and openings such as windows should be taken into consideration before the insulation process begins.
Step 1:
Measure the widths between the timber frame studs and match the thickness of the timber frames with the slabs of insulation material being applied which is typically a depth of 90mm or 140mm. Measure the length of the timber frame wall to work out the number of slabs that need to be applied and cut slabs where necessary to fit smaller spaces using a sharp blade.
Step 2:
The Omnifit slab can then be firmly but carefully pushed into place, making sure all the edges are in place and secure without flattening the material as this will affect the performance of the roll. Make sure any slab being joint together are tightly butted to avoid thermal bridging.
Step 3:
No fixings are required when fitting Omnifit slabs as the flexible material should fit snug between the timber frames. Complete the timber frame stud wall with plasterboard, the plasterboard can be applied to the timber frames using the necessary fixtures. It is then recommended to add joint tape and angle beads to the plasterboard to prevent cracking when plastered. The plasterboard can then be plastered and finished touches can be applied such as paint or wallpaper.
Please note this is just a guide only, and an architect or building professional should be consulted before starting any construction on insulation work on your property.
