Kingspan TW50 100mm
Kingspan Thermawall TW50 is an insulation board from the Thermawall range which consists of high performance, fibre free, rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) thermoset insulation core. It is designed with Nilflam technology and has a low emissivity composite foil facings bonded to each side which is used for insulation in partially filled cavity walls. Partial fill cavity wall insulation using Kingspan TW50 insulation board allows a strong barrier to run infiltration. The board offers high water vapour resistivity.
This insulation board has low thermal conductivity value and low affinity for moisture which offers the best type of insulation for a cavity wall. The board is made using a blowing agent that features zero Ozone Depletion potential (ODP) and a low Global Warming potential (GWP).
Key Features:
- Compressive strength- exceeds 125 kPa at 10% compression
- Water vapour resistance- 100 MNs/g
- Fire Performance – Euroclass F
- High performance and rigid urethane insulation
- Clear cavity without moisture penetration
- It meets NHBC technical requirements when used with a 50 mm residual cavity
- The board is resistant to solvents, fungi and rodents
- CFC/HCFC free
- No effect of air movement
This product is extremely durable depending on the condition of the buildings structure. Providing the building is in excellent condition, the insulation board will last for as long as the building does. TW50 is lightweight and easy to handle and install.
The Thermawall TW50 come is sizes 1200mm by 450mm and is available in thicknesses ranging from 20mm to 150mm with a thermal conductivity of 0.022W/mK. All Kingspan packaging is completely recyclable however should not be considered as weatherproof material. The board should be stored in a indoor space on a flat surface. If the boards must be kept outside the appropriate weatherproofing material should be applied. If they board get wet, they should not be used.
The TW50 board should be cut with a fine-toothed saw by measuring and making markings if necessary and placing the board on a higher surface so the saw can go through the board. If using a knife, ensure it is sharp. Use the knife to score one side of the board, snap the board over a hard edge and then score the knife along the other side of the facing.
Protective gear should be work when cutting TW50 insulation board as the particles produced when cutting should not be inhaled and can irritate the skin and eyes. Goggles, protective clothing, face masks, and gloved are recommended when cutting TW50.
Kingspan Kooltherm TW50 can be installed in a range of methods. These methods include:
Internal finish – fair faced blockwork

Cavity Wall Boards – What are they and how do they work?
– Cavity wall boards are installed into the internal cavities within the building outside walls.
– They are fixed to the inner leaf using wall ties and they are applied as the wall is being built.
– A gap of 50mm is left in between the insulation itself and the outer leaf to provide ventilation.
– Cavity wall boards should be around 50mm or above thickness depending on the structure of the building.
– Cavity insulation is very effective, reduces energy consumption, make homes warmer and more comfortable by providing a temperature-controlled environment. Keeping the heat out in the summer and the heat in during the winter.
– The cavity wall boards work by reducing heat loss through cavity walls by filling the air space with an insulation material that will stop heat transfer. The air will be captured within the cavity preventing heat loss.
– Less heat will escape through the walls of your home or work environment.
– This will reduce heating bills long term as less energy is wasted.
– Cavity wall boards are also designed to prevent damp by stopping moisture entering the inside of the property.
– In some cases, cavity wall boards can make problems with damp worse, if they are installed into damp conditions. It is essential any damp or rot is treated by a building professional before insulating your property.
– Advice should also be sought on what insulation materials are right for your property and what method will be most effective.
– The Building Regulations require that the insulation material used is suitable for the wall construction concerned.
– Insulating your home will make your property more energy efficient by preventing global warming and contributed towards the reduction of climate change. This is because less heat is escaping the property which will reduce the carbon footprint.
