Kingspan K103 75mm
Kingspan K103 75mm – an insulation material manufactured with a phenolic core. The K103 floor insulation board has a thermoset fibre-free rigid phenolic core. The K103 board has glass tissue facings on each side.
Sustainability – The K103 floor board will help by reducing the heat levels lost through the building. This will reduce the contribution to global warming and in conclusion, have positive effects on climate change. Moreover, the lack of heat loss can save money on energy bills up to 30% per year.
Thermal – K103 has a thermal conductivity of just 0.019W/mK. Thermal conductivity means less heat will pass through the insulation boards. As a result, this will keep the internal temperature level. The thermal properties of the K103 75mm will also prevent heat and energy from escaping the building and because of this, the building will be a much more comfortable space.
The better the insulation in the walls, ceilings, and roof, the more heat is lost through the floor.
Storage – Stack the insulation boards on a flat surface, within a cool and dry environment. If left outside, cover the boards with weatherproofing materials. Do not apply pressure to the boards. This includes walking on the boards to avoid damage. If applying excess weight on the boards, as a result, they can crumble internally, and the thermal quality of the board will be affected.

75mm K103 Application
K103 75mm boards are rectangular in shape. The boards are designed for easy installation. The K103 are for floor insulation applications. See below:
Beam and dense block ground floors – Insulation below the floor screed.
Suspended timber ground floors – Insulation between joists.
Solid concrete ground-based floors – Insulation below the floor slab.
Solid concrete ground-based floors – Insulation below the floor screed.
The 75mm is a board designed for floor applications. The boards are designed for commercial, residential, and industrial buildings as well as new builds and refurbs. In addition, K103 can help to meet building regulations.
The boards are extremely durable and last lasting. In addition, the 75mm insulation board will last for as long as the building does. The product performance will not reduce over time. Therefore, the K103 75mm is a well-used product within the construction industry. Moreover, the thinner nature of the 75mm board means this board is great for improving thermal quality whilst keeping as much space as possible.
The board can also be doubled up to achieve a higher thickness. Fit the boards doubled in a break bonded pattern with no two boards aligning.
How to Install K103 75mm floor Boards
Cut K103 insulation boards using a fine-toothed saw or a sharp knife. Use the sharp knife by scoring and snapping the boards and scoring the other side.
Using the fine-toothed saw by measuring and marking the board to size. After that, place the board on an elevated surface to allow the saw to cut through.
Always consult a building/construction professional before insulating your property because this can be a costly and time-effective mistake. Ensure the walls are free from condensation and mould before insulating. Please note this is a guide only.
Installation from above the floor joists
Firstly, Install Kingspan Kooltherm K103 in suspended floor constructions before the commencement of floor boarding. Ensure insulation boards are flush with the top surface of the joists. Support on minimum 25 mm x 25 mm treated softwood timber battens, proprietary galvanised steel saddle clips, or galvanised nails partially driven into the side of the joists.
Secondly, place battens and nails at an appropriate height to suit the thickness of the board being fitted. Nails should remain 40 mm proud of the joist.
Thirdly, cut the insulation boards to fit snugly between the floor joists. Fit boards so that they are supported by the battens/saddle clips or nails. Measure the distance between the joists prior to cutting the boards as spacings can vary.
Fourthly, if two layers are required, install insulation horizontally offset relative to each other. This is so that, as far as possible, the board joints in the two adjacent layers do not coincide with each other.
Note – Tightly butt together all board joins.
After that, fit all insulation boards tightly between joists and fill any gaps with expanding urethane sealant.
Finally, insulate any narrow gaps between a joist and perimeter with specially cut pieces of board. Support this on blocks nailed to the underside of the joists. Fill gaps less than 25 mm wide with expanding urethane sealant.
Note – Kingspan Kooltherm K103 is not suitable for installation directly over timber joists
