Rocksilk Universal Slab RS100 is an insulation material made up of Rock Mineral Wool designed to be installed within multiple applications to improve thermal performance where density is key. The slabs are available in a range of densities and are manufactured using Knauf Insulation’s unique bio-based binder, ECOSE Technology. The slabs can be provided with a factory applied foil or tissue facing, offering solutions for a wide variety of applications. Rocksilk Building Slabs are odourless, rot proof, non-hygroscopic, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria. The Knauf RS100 is 1200mm by 600mm and is available in thicknesses ranging from 25mm to 100mm. This product offers a thermal conductivity of 0.034W/mK. Rocksilk Building Slab R100 is manufactured with a density of 100kg/m3

Key Features:

  • A natural binder
  • A lower embodied energy
  • Proven durability
  • Optimum indoor air comfort
  • Odourless, non-hygroscopic, rot proof, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria
  • Easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easy to cut to size
  • Vapour resistance of 7.00 MN.s/g.m
  • Free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential (ODP),
  • Non-wicking

If installed correctly the product will have a lifespan equivalent to the wall structure in which it is incorporated. The Slabs are used considerably in OEM applications for fabrication of thermal, acoustic and fire products. Glass and Rock Mineral Wool products are easier to install correctly than other insulants like rigid PIR boards because they adapt to any slight imperfections in the substrate and knit together, destroying any air gaps. Evidence shows the absence of air gaps is crucial to achieving the full thermal potential.

Rocksilk Building Slabs are supplied in recyclable polythene packs which are designed for short term protection only. For longer term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors or off the ground. Rocksilk RS100 Building Slabs should not be left permanently exposed to the elements. If indoor storage is not an option, the necessary weather-proofing materials should be applied to protect the slabs from the elements.

ECOSE Technology is an innovative, new, formaldehyde free binder technology, centred on rapidly renewable materials instead of petro-based chemicals. It lessens embodied energy and provides superior environmental sustainability. ECOSE Technology was developed for glass and rock mineral wool insulation, but offers the same potential advantages to other products where resin substitution would be an advantage, such as in wood-based panels, abrasives and friction materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the products in the RS100 range?

The Rocksilk range is designed for insulation projects where product density is crucial. The RS range differs in thicknesses available for each product and the density of each product differs. For example, the RS45 slab has a density of 45kg/m3, the RS60 slab has a density of 60kg/m3 and so on.

Are RS100 slabs soundproof?

The RS100 will not completely soundproof a space however it can provide acoustic advantages to the property by reducing the noise levels. Sounds travelling thought the structure of the building will be reflected to the original sound source by the slabs installed into the walls and floors. Meaning that less sounds is transmitted between rooms.

What are the benefits of RS100?

  • By insulating your home with RS100 you are creating a more energy-efficient environment by reducing the among of heat escaping your property. This will contribute to the reduction of global warming and climate change.
  • By reducing the heat escaping the property you will also save money on your energy bills and create a more temperature-controlled living or working space with cooler summers and warmer winters.
  • Rocksilk 100 Slabs are lightweight and easy to handle, install, and cut if necessary.

How are RS100 Slabs installed?

The RS100 slabs installation method depends on the area of the property being insulated. RS100 is commonly installed within the rafters and timber joists of the property however it can be applied to multiple applications and customised for specific projects.

Can I install the insulation myself?

If you’re confident you can install insulation there are guides available to take you through the steps, however, a building professional or architect should always be consulted when it comes to installing insulation. This is to confirm the product is the right fit for your property and to ensure the installation method fits your properties requirements. Installing insulation incorrectly can cost time and money and can make fixing the problem more complex
